“Was Stuck in Traffic, It’s My Rebirth”: Woman Who Missed London Flight by 10 Minutes Reflects on Narrow Escape

What seemed like a frustrating missed opportunity has turned into a miraculous moment of survival for a 28-year-old woman who narrowly escaped tragedy after missing her flight to London by just 10 minutes. The woman, identified as Ayesha Mehra, called it her “rebirth” after learning that the very flight she was supposed to board encountered a critical mid-air emergency shortly after takeoff.

Ayesha, a tech consultant from Gurugram, was en route to Indira Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday morning for her 8:05 AM flight to London. However, an unusually severe traffic jam on NH-48 delayed her arrival by over an hour. By the time she reached the check-in counter, the gates had already closed.

“I was furious, I kept blaming the traffic, the cab driver, even myself. I cried in frustration outside the terminal,” Ayesha told reporters. “But a few hours later, everything changed.”

The British Airways flight she missed reportedly experienced a severe technical failure mid-air, forcing an emergency landing in Frankfurt. According to aviation authorities, the aircraft had a critical hydraulic system malfunction which could have led to a catastrophic situation had it not been handled promptly by the crew.

“No fatalities were reported, thankfully,” said a British Airways spokesperson. “The flight made a safe emergency landing, and all passengers were evacuated and taken care of.”

For Ayesha, the news hit like a jolt.

“I just froze. I was watching the news and saw the flight number flash on the screen. It was my flight. My name was supposed to be on that manifest,” she recalled. “In that moment, all my anger vanished. I was just thankful. It felt like the universe gave me another chance. It’s my rebirth.”

Social media quickly picked up her story, with thousands sharing their reactions under the hashtag #10MinutesSavedHerLife. Some called it fate, others a divine intervention.

Psychologists say such moments often trigger deep reflection in survivors.

“Missing a flight is usually frustrating, but when it turns into a moment of survival, it can lead to a dramatic shift in one’s perspective on life,” said Dr. Nandita Rao, a trauma psychologist based in Delhi. “People often re-evaluate their priorities, relationships, and even purpose.”

Ayesha agrees. “All those things I thought were urgent — work meetings, emails, bookings — they don’t matter as much now. I’m going to slow down. Be kinder. Live fuller.”

She plans to reschedule her trip to London next week — this time, with a fresh outlook on life and a backup plan for traffic.

“I’m still flying. But now I know — sometimes, being late can save your life.”
