Bollywood classic Parineeta, which marked the enchanting debut of Vidya Balan, is all set to return to the big screen, celebrating its 20th anniversary with a theatrical re-release. Directed by Pradeep Sarkar and based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Bengali novella of the same name, Parineeta first released in 2005 and became an instant critical and commercial success.

The film starred Vidya Balan as the graceful and resilient Lalita, alongside Saif Ali Khan as Shekhar, and Sanjay Dutt in a pivotal role. With its soulful music by Shantanu Moitra, lyrics by Swanand Kirkire, and haunting vocals from Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal, the film created a nostalgic blend of romance and drama that still resonates with audiences today.

To commemorate two decades since its release, the makers have digitally restored the film and plan to screen it in select theatres across India starting next month. Speaking about the re-release, Vidya Balan shared her excitement: “Parineeta was my dream debut. It gave me everything – love, respect, and a place in people’s hearts. I’m thrilled it’s coming back to theatres for a new generation to experience.”
The re-release will not only rekindle memories for long-time fans but also introduce the timeless story and Vidya’s spellbinding performance to newer audiences who missed it on the big screen the first time.
Parineeta remains a testament to storytelling rooted in emotion and elegance – and its return to cinemas is a celebration of Vidya Balan’s enduring legacy and the golden touch of classic Bollywood romance.
